Arusha (Arusha)

Chegando em Kilimanjaro, resolvi comprar um SimCard da Tanzânia, para tentar ter acesso a internet no meu celular, pois nos acampamentos e no Kili não teria. A comunicação foi bem difícil e metade dos créditos que comprei não funcionavam, o que me tomou um certo tempo no aeroporto. Liguei para a agência e eles não tinham visto o meu e-mail de ontem. Eu teria que ir até Arusha para acertar o pacote com a agencia e voltar para o Kili para a subida! Como não havia mais shuttle e eu acabei pegando carona no ônibus de uns Croatas.

O caminho para Arusha é um sertão desgraçado, como algumas regiões do Nordeste do Brasil, mas só de ver o Kili de longe já dá um friozinho na barriga!

A Tanzânia é uma país com forte incidência muçulmana, e isso se refletem em vários momentos do dia-a-dia, seja na rua, quando eles se agacham para rezar ao pôr do sol, na forma como se vestem, no café da manhã, quando se come ovos mexidos com bacon de boi (!?), ou nos filmes, onde todas as menções a Deus são cortadas! Podem imaginar? “O my God, where did I leave my purse?” vira “O my —, where did I leave my purse?” ou “C’mon, for Christ sake!” vira “C’mon, for ———- sake!”

Cheguei na Victoria Expeditions umas 9:45am. O lugar era bem moquifo, e estava sem energia. Por isso eles não haviam visto o meu e-mail. Eles disseram que era muito tarde para ir para o Kilimanjaro. Insisti que não queria perder um dia e após discutirmos um pouco chegamos a uma solução. Eu inverteria o roteiro, começaria pelos safaris, subiria o Kilimanjaro em 5 dias ao invés de 6, e eles me dariam um desconto de USD200. No total seriam USD1,600 por 4 dias de safari no (Lago Manyara, Serengeti e Cratera Ngorongoro) e 5 dias de escalada.

Eles me ofereceram o hotel deles para ficar, mas eu precisava de muito tempo na internet para traduzir os posts e acabei optando por ir para o East African Hotel, que por USD75 tinha um loft, com internet e wireless incluídos no preço, café da manhã e uma piscininha.

Sentei no computador ao meio dia e levantei às 10 da noite! Mas pelos menos consegui colocar as traduções em dia e fiz o upload de 4 dias de fotos! Fui dormir lá pra meia noite, mega animado com o primeiro safari na Tanzânia!

Arriving at Kilimanjaro, I decided to buy a Tanzanian SimCard to try to access internet on my phone, because in the camps and on Kili there wouldn’t be internet. The communication with the saleswoman was very hard and half credits I bought didn’t work and this took me some time in airport. I called the agency and they had not seen my e-mail from yesterday. I would have to go to Arusha to pay for the package and go back to Kili for the hike! As there was no shuttle and I ended up hitching a ride on the bus a few Croats. 

The road to Arusha is very arid as some regions of the Northeast of Brazil, but I must comnfess that just seeing the Kili knowing that I will hike it tomrorrow is already breathtaking! 

Tanzania is a country with high Muslim incidence and this reflected in various moments of the day, whether on the street when they crouch to pray at sunset, by the way they dress, or during breakfast, when you eat scrambled eggs with beef bacon (!?), or simply waching a movie, where all references to God are cut! Can you imagine? “Oh my God, where did I leave my purse?” becomes “Oh my —, where did I leave my purse?” or “C’mon, for Christ sake!” becomes “C’mon, is ———- sake!” 

I arrived at 9:45am at Victoria Expeditions. The place was very crappy and was out of electric power. That why they hadn’t seen my email. They said it was too late to go to Kilimanjaro today. I insisted that I did not want to miss a day after a little argument we got to a solution. I would reverse the script, start with the Safari, climb Kilimanjaro in 5 days instead of 6, and they would give me a discount of USD200. In total would be USD1, 600 for a 4 day safari (Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater) and 5 days of climbing. 

They offered me to stay at their hotel but I needed a lot of time in the internet to translate the posts so I opted to go to the African East Hotel. For USD75 they offered a loft with internet access and wi-fi included, plus breakfast and a swimming pool. 

I sat on the computer at noon and left at 10pm! Bu at least I managed to update the translations on time and uploaded about 400 pictures! I ended up sleeping at midnight super excited about the first safari in Tanzania!
